Two mango origins went short in the same fortnight
Mexico's season is expected to finish before the end of August, well ahead of schedule and on volumes already running below normal, with Keitt the only variety left on the tree. Spain, the EU's own origin, is reported 20 to 25% down per FreshPlaza on August 21 and up to 30% down per one large grower earlier in the month. The two Spanish figures come from different reporting dates, so quote the range rather than a single number. Osteen, roughly 75% of Spanish production, only starts in early September. For buyers: this stopped being a forecast this week. A September or October program leaning on either origin is leaning on a calendar that just compressed, and the fruit that bridges the gap has to be booked rather than assumed. The Dominican side of that calendar is Keitt to the end of September, then nothing until March.
